What can be seen in a data step depends on whether the user is a subscriber, designer or a designer editting the data step.
Editting a data step
Ultimately, to be able to view all contents in a data step, you will need to be editting the data step.
This can only be done by a Designer in Design Mode.
To turn on Design Mode, click on the "Home" tab at the top, and click "Design mode", until the text "You are in design mode" is displayed at the bottom.
Next, right-click the data step, whose contents you wish to view and click on "Edit data step":
You will then be able to see all data step properties that are located inside the given data step.
Data step visibility
You can configure which data step properties are visible to a Designer user.
For example, if a typical Designer is using the process (running the process, but not editting), that is, when the process is in production, what he/she sees will depend on the "visibility" settings of the data step properties.
To configure this, you will need to edit the data step and highlight the relevant property.
In the "Advanced" section, you can untick the "Visible" field to hide this property from a normal Designer user.
And so, when the data step is saved, this will be the view for the Designer user (i.e. the "Date" property is hidden):
Note: this does not necessarily make the property hidden in Designer View. To do so, please refer to the next section.
As a Designer, you can control which data step properties are visible in Subscriber View, and where it will appear.
Hidden completely from Subscriber View
To set a property to be hidden from Subscriber View completely, navigate to the "Subscriber view" field and choose "None" from the drop-down list.
Visible in Subscriber View as an Input field
If you instead require the data step property to be an input field for the end-user Subsciber to see and use, choose "Input" from the drop-down list.
Visible in Subscribe View as an Output field
If the intended data step property contains the output file(s) for the process, then this property will need to be visible as an Output in Subscriber View. To do this, simply choose "Output" from the drop-down list.
