The "Copy rows by key" instruction copies a specific row from the source range to the data range based on a column that contains a "key".
This instruction is very common when using "mapping tables" and copying all relevant information in the mapping table to the main data, based on a single "key" column.
How to use the instruction
To better illustrate this, we will go through an example.
Suppose we have the following data, where we wish to extract the Cost Centre IDs for the Marketing department.
The cost centre information is stored in another spreadsheet (the "mapping table"):
We will then configure the instruction by adding an action step to manipulate data and selecting "Copy rows by key":
The instruction will then need to be configured.
1. First, the source and target ranges will need to be indicated.
2. Next, you will need to indicate the criteria for which row in the source range will be copied.
3. The criteria for the rows in the target range will need to be indicated, which will select which rows will have the source data row pasted.
